These homeowners moved from a traditional home to this lovely log cabin which they custom built. They were familiar with plantings appropriate for "conventional" homes, many of which would not be suitable for a log cabin. Indeed the logs themselves offer a challenge in terms of colors of plantings that would compliment the burnt red/brown color of the logs and work well next to the home. |

|
The first stage of the design and installation included the font walkway, front plantings and rear pond (additional pond plantings to be installed spring 2006). The front walkway of natural stone in hues of colors that match the home is much more fitting to the rustic, natural feel of the cabin than a manufactured product such as pavers. In addition the informal plantings, many of which are North American Native, along with the color theme of yellows, purples and orange compliment the color and style of the home. The homeowners originally thought they would install the pond themselves, but after realizing the difficulty of the job, they decided to have it professionally installed. A two-sided waterfall fitting naturally into the existing hillside and visible from the indoor and outdoor rooms of the home was designed offering soothing sounds of water, a pleasing ambience and beautiful focal point to be enjoyed year-round. Additional pond plantings to be installed in Spring 2006. |
